Skip to contentProfessional hardwood floor drying serving Pratt and surrounding areas.
Wet hardwood has a window, and it closes fast — boards cup within days as moisture moves through the grain, and once finishes fail and boards crack, replacement becomes the only conversation. Hardwood floor drying in Pratt uses floor mat systems that pull moisture straight through the boards: sealed mats on the surface, vacuum pressure drawing the water out from the wood itself, dry air flowing beneath the floor at the same time. The result is a floor that dries in place instead of coming up — and in a town with as much century-old oak as Pratt, that’s the difference between a restoration bill and a character loss that no new floor can replace.

Cupping is a diagnostic, not a verdict. Cupped boards mean moisture came from below — a wet crawlspace, a saturated subfloor, water wicked through the tongue-and-groove — and the boards are still talking to each other about moisture content. Dry the subfloor and the air beneath, pull moisture through the mats, and most cupped oak flattens back toward flat as it equalizes. Crowning (centers higher than edges) after poor drying is what actually ruins floors — it happens when the surface is sanded before the boards finish equalizing.
The floor is already cupped — too late? Usually not — cupping means the boards are still moving; drying flattens most of it, and light sanding handles the rest.
Do you dry floors over crawlspaces? Yes — those are the most common floors we dry in Pratt’s older housing, and drying from both sides is the standard approach.
When can it be sanded? After the boards stabilize near their pre-loss moisture — typically 2–4 weeks post-drying, verified by readings.

Often yes — if drying starts within 24–48 hours. Floor mat systems pull moisture through the boards, and many floors return to sandable condition.
Board edges rising higher than centers — wood absorbing moisture faster from below. Cupped boards can often flatten with proper drying.
Typically 5–10 days with mat systems; the boards are then given time to stabilize before any sanding.
Almost always — drying costs a fraction of tear-out, and an original floor can't be replaced with new wood of the same character.
